from Montana to Los Angeles
We have moved our car from Montana to LA without any problems using Axis Auto Logistics. It was a tough decision to choose someone who just stepped on the market but the experience was very good and I would definitely recommend Axis at any time if you need your vehicle shipped. The communication was perfect, the support both on the phone and chat were really polite. Our car was picked up without any issues and delivered sooner than expected. The price was reasonable. Recommend with both hands!

Very quick and seamless service. Had to quickly move my new Raptor from Copart, and these guys did a fine job in gettin it done the way i wanted to! Booking was very easy through their site and they actually take the time to explain all the details, which one may not be aware of when doing this for the first time. And all this within my budget :)

Transporting Inoperable Vehicles

Did you know that Axis Auto Logistix will transport vehicles that can’t start, run, drive, steer and stop on their own power? In some instances, it could be a vehicle that’s being used for parts. Or, if a customer has a rare antique or classic car that’s being restored, parts and service could be a real issue and the vehicle might need to go to a specialized shop or mechanic in some other part of the country.

Our customers have all kinds of reasons for transporting a non-running vehicle, and that’s one of the services we offer to help them with their auto logistics needs

What is Salvaged or an Inoperable Vehicle?

A salvage or inoperable vehicle could be one that’s sustained significant body and frame damage in a collision and is only good for parts, but not necessarily. In many cases, it just means a vehicle that has electrical or drivetrain problems and can’t be started and driven on its own power. In legal terms, vehicles that have been written off as a total loss by the insurance company will have a salvage title and can’t legally be driven on the roads until they’ve been restored and issued a “rebuilt” title.

How to Transport a Non-Running Car

If the vehicle still has inflated tires and can roll, it can be loaded onto the transport trailer with an electric winch, using a heavy cable or chain. If it can’t roll, loading will generally involve a forklift or a dolly (in some cases), then the vehicle will have to be specially strapped down and secured for transport. Transporting non-running cars means a more complex and time-consuming process, and requires special procedures on the part of the driver (who needs to be trained and experienced in this kind of transport).

How to Ship a Salvage Car

Shipping a salvage vehicle or inoperable vehicle does mean a special process and special equipment to do the job safely and efficiently. For shorter distances, some transport companies might use a flatbed truck with a tilting bed, known as a “HydraTail”. These beds lift hydraulically to about a 30 degree angle to make it simpler to winch the vehicle onto the bed. For longer distances, transport trailers with a winch are generally used. Heavy-duty straps and/or chains are then used to tightly secure the vehicle for the road.

Tips for Smooth Salvage Car Shipping

We can’t stress this enough - to ensure your shipping goes smoothly, please let us know everything you can about your vehicle at the time you set up the order. We do offer the Quote Calculator to make it quicker and easier to book your order, but if you have questions or feel there’s anything specific our team needs to know, don’t be shy about reaching out to us. Nobody wants to have the transport driver get to your pickup point and then find out that he’s not equipped or trained to safely handle your vehicle, loading it up and securing it for the road.

Documenting Vehicle Condition Before Transport

At the time of pickup, before your vehicle is loaded and secured, you and the driver will each perform an inspection for the Bill of Lading document. We suggest that you take multiple photos of the vehicle from various angles to get an accurate record of its condition. If applicable, it’s a good idea to wash the vehicle before transport, as it’s easier to notice defects like dings, scrapes or scratches on a clean vehicle.

Inspecting Your Vehicle Upon Delivery

When your car makes it to its destination, you and the driver will each do a post-trip inspection and you’ll be asked to sign the Bill of Lading before you accept delivery. It’s important that you look very closely during the post-trip inspection; if you notice any damage after the fact, it can be difficult to file an insurance claim.

Inoperable Car Transport Tips

On average, it takes anywhere between 7 to 14 days to ship a motorcycle, though it may take shorter or longer than that depending on the circumstances. The overall shipping time that it takes will vary greatly based on several factors:

How Much Does Non-Running Vehicle Transport Cost?

Due to the special equipment that’s involved and the need for qualified operators to handle the inoperable car and secure it for transport, shipping a non-running vehicle does come at an enhanced cost. That’s why it’s important that we know about the situation in advance, at the time you’re setting up your transport order. If you have an unusual set of needs or if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at Axis Auto Logistics talk to our team at (864) 249-4838.

What is the Salvage Car Title Transfer Process?

Details of transfer of title for salvage vehicles can vary from state to state, but it’s safe to say that, in general, the right forms and paperwork need to be completed and signed, then submitted to the local county tax office along with any required fees and proof of ownership. If the vehicle is going to be repaired and put back on the road, it will need a rebuilt title. Before the application for rebuilt title can be submitted, the repaired vehicle will need to pass a safety inspection (possibly with your state’s highway patrol). Most states require the vehicle to be re-titled within 30 days of sale, or delinquent transfer fees might be applied. For the vehicle to be registered and driven, proof of insurance will also be required.

Exclusive Salvage Vehicle Transport Services

Transporting your salvage vehicle or inoperable vehicle isn’t a problem with Axis Auto Logistix - just let us know in advance and consult with us about your situation and we’ll connect you with the right transport service. In some cases, for a rare classic or a delicate 1910s era Brass Age antique, it could be a good idea to request enclosed transport so the vehicle is safely closed in for its trip, away from curious onlookers and protected from any potential damage while en route.

Cost Factors for Transporting a Damaged Car

Along with the need for special equipment and handling, the usual considerations have to be taken into account when calculating rate structures for transporting a salvage vehicle. The mileage between the starting point and destination are an important factor (although cost/mile drops for very long runs). In addition, seasonality comes into play, since the auto transport industry is cyclical and there are calendar periods when there’s a spike in the volume of orders we handle. During these surges in demand, rates will go up a bit until things slow down again.
